Introduction: The Digital Guardian of Audiovisual Rights
YouTube Content ID is the world’s most advanced “fingerprinting” matching system, allowing rights holders to easily identify and manage their content on YouTube. By integrating your music into this system, our company detects every video where your song is used within seconds and takes control of it on your behalf.
Technical Operation of the System
Content ID functions as a complex database scanning algorithm:
Creating a Reference File: When you upload your music to us, a digital “fingerprint” (reference file) of your audio file is sent to the YouTube database.
Continuous Scanning: Every video uploaded to YouTube (hundreds of hours of content per minute) is compared against this massive fingerprint library.
Matching (Claim): If a segment of your song is used in any video, the system automatically generates a “Copyright Claim” on that video.
Post-Claim Options: Monetization and Protection
When a match is found, our company implements one of these three strategies on your behalf:
Monetize: The most common choice. Advertisements are displayed on the video, and the resulting ad revenue is paid to you as the copyright owner (via us), rather than to the person who uploaded the video.
Block: If you do not want your song to be used in that specific video, the video is restricted from viewing globally or in specific countries.
Track: The video is neither monetized nor blocked; however, statistics such as viewership numbers are tracked for your data.
Eligibility Criteria for Content ID
YouTube maintains very strict rules to prevent the misuse of the system. The following types of content cannot be included in the Content ID system:
Unlicensed Samples: (Unauthorized) snippets taken from other artists’ songs.
Creative Commons: Publicly available, royalty-free backing tracks.
Public Domain: Old works whose copyright duration has expired.
Sound Effects: Nature sounds, white noise, or isolated instrument recordings.
Whitelisting Management
You may wish to avoid copyright claims appearing on your own YouTube channel or on the channels of partners you have agreed with. Our company adds these channels to a “Whitelist,” preventing claims from being generated on your chosen platforms and ensuring freedom of broadcast.
