DSP
Digital Service Provider

Introduction: The New Home of Music

DSP (Digital Service Provider) is the industry term for technology platforms that deliver music to the end user via digital streaming or downloads. Today, more than 85% of music consumption occurs within this ecosystem. As a music distributor, our mission is to deliver your works to every corner of this massive network at the highest technical standards.

DSP Categories and Operating Models

Not all platforms operate the same way. To understand how your music is consumed, you must recognize these categories:

  • Subscription-Based Streaming (Premium):

    • Examples: Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer.

    • Model: Users pay a monthly fee. Payments to artists are calculated using a pro-rata model (the platform’s total monthly revenue divided by the total stream count).

  • Ad-Supported Models (Free):

    • Examples: YouTube Music (Free version), Spotify Free.

    • Model: The user does not pay but watches advertisements. Royalties are covered by these ad revenues; therefore, the per-stream earning is lower compared to Premium models.

  • Video and Social Interaction Platforms:

    • Examples: TikTok, Instagram Music, Snapchat.

    • Model: Your music is used as a “content creation tool.” Revenue is determined by the number of videos using your song and the view traffic of those videos.

  • High-Resolution (Hi-Fi) and Niche Platforms:

    • Examples: Qobuz, Beatport (DJ-focused), Bandcamp.

    • Model: Generally based on direct purchases or high-quality audio subscriptions.

Platform Algorithms & Editorial Processes

Sending a song to a DSP is not just an “upload” process. For a successful release, the following must be managed:

  • Pitching: At least 3 weeks before your release, we increase your chances of entering official playlists by presenting your song’s story and marketing plan to platform editors (e.g., Spotify Editorial).

  • Algorithmic Lists: Lists like “Discover Weekly” or “Release Radar” analyze listener behavior. Accurate Metadata entry ensures the algorithm recommends your song to the right audience.

Technical Delivery Standards

Each DSP accepts different formats. Our company automatically converts your music into these standards with a single upload:

  • Audio: 24-bit/44.1kHz or higher (Lossless/Spatial Audio supported).

  • Visual: 3000x3000px, high-resolution cover art with RGB color space.
